Cookies & local storage
What PivotScanner stores on your device, and why there is no cookie consent banner.
The short version:PivotScanner uses only strictly-necessary cookies (to keep you signed in) and functional first-party storage on your device (so the app works offline at sea). There is no third-party analytics, no advertising, and no cross-site tracking — so under GDPR/ePrivacy no consent banner is required. You can clear this data any time from your browser or by signing out.
What we use
We use two kinds of on-device storage, both first-party (set by PivotScanner itself, not by any outside company):
- Strictly-necessary cookies keep you signed in. Without them the app cannot know you are logged in.
- Functional device storage holds your offline data queue and cache (so you can keep working with no connection) plus a few small settings such as which panels you last opened.
What we do NOT use
We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or cross-site tracking cookies. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not share your browsing with ad networks. Because every item we store is either strictly necessary or a functional first-party preference, no consent banner is required.
The details
| Storage | Category | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase auth session cookies | Essential | Keeps you signed in to your account. |
IndexedDB pivotscanner-offline | Functional | Queues changes you make offline so they sync when you reconnect. |
IndexedDB pivotscanner-read-cache | Functional | Caches your fleet data so it is readable with no connection. |
localStorage pivot:* / pivotscanner:* | Functional | Small interface preference flags (e.g. dismissed hints, last view). |
Service-worker pivot-* caches | Functional | Stores the app shell and assets so it loads and runs offline. |
Clearing this data
You can clear all of this at any time from your browser's site settings, or by signing out. Clearing the offline storage removes any changes that have not yet synced, so reconnect and let the app sync first if you want to keep them. For what we do with personal data more generally, see the Privacy Policy.
