Crew certificates that expire without warning
Each crew member holds several certificates, each with its own expiry date, and keeping track of them across a fleet is easy to get wrong. PivotScanner shows every crew member’s certificate status color-coded by expiry window: a certificate is flagged as expiring 180 days ahead and turns red from 30 days out — even when the vessel has no internet.
Hours of rest without the paperwork
Record crew hours of rest on a tablet. PivotScanner checks the recorded hours against the MLC 2006 and STCW minimum rest periods and shows where they fall short. The captain logs onboard; the office sees the same record, with no paper rest sheets to re-type afterwards.
The vessel is offline more than it’s online
Satellite connections drop. Emerging-market ports throttle to 2G. Most maritime software just shows a loading screen, then an error. PivotScanner queues every change locally and syncs in the background when connectivity returns. Crew never see a “save failed” screen.
